授業の目的?内容 ／Course Objectives	This one-semester course is compulsory for second-year students. Overall Objectives 1. To increase academic vocabulary and to further the development of vocabulary/vocabulary building skills in general 2. To automatize more accurate grammatical knowledge and recognize cohesive devices 3. To develop a better understanding of various styles and purposes of reading material 4. To develop effective reading skills (intensive reading, extensive reading, etc.) 5. To introduce students to authentic texts/outside readers This course focuses on improving students’ "vocabulary," "grammar," "reading" skills and their "competence to think critically in English as well as hold discussions in English, without using Japanese" as stated in DP 2. Overall objectives are for students to acquire the basics of "written receptive skills" stated in the CP.
授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意 ／Teaching method and Attention the course	この授業は、対面形式で行う。やむを得ない事情により、授業に参加できない場合は、必ず前日までに連絡すること。場合によっては、zoomライブ参加を検討する。また、可能な限りインタラクティブな授業を目指すため、ペア?ワークやグループ?ワークを多く用いる予定である。１つのユニットを３週で進める予定である。
事前?事後学修の内容 ／Before After Study	多くの課題を出す予定である。やや難しい内容の教科書を扱うため、わからない単語や文章の意味がよくわからない場合には事前に調べた上で授業に臨むこと。また、授業後は、テキストを読み返し、疑問点が残らないように復習すること。事前事後学習に2時間程を取ること。
